The NFL is making up to $2 million in HeadHealthTECH grant funding available to applicants to support the creation of a physical helmet prototype for laboratory testing. The HeadHealthTECH Challenge series is one component of the , a $60-million comprehensive effort funded by the NFL and managed by FRI to improve the understanding of the biomechanics of head injuries in profe sional football and to create incentives for helmet manufacturers, small busine ses, entrepreneurs, universities and others to develop and commercialize new and improved protective equipment, including helmets. Through six TECH Challenges, the NFL and FRI have awarded more than $1.6 million in grants to help advance the development of 13 new technologies. A panel of expert judges selected by Duke CTSI, in collaboration with FRI, will evaluate all proposals. Funding will be awarded by FRI.
